Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, Round Rock Police officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1900 block of Nicole Circle where witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Witnesses report they saw Jonathan Demarco point a handgun and shoot his estranged girlfriend Sarai Valdez. Officers encountered Demarco, who was holding a handgun, in the front of the residence. Officers ordered him to put the gun down. Demarco pointed the handgun at the officers, who then shot him.

Valdez, 23, of Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. Demarco, 20, of Round Rock was also pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other reported injuries. The two police officers involved in the shooting are currently on administrative leave, which is protocol for shooting-related incidents.
