An Alabama man was jailed on Saturday, May 5, after an I-35 traffic stop resulted in the seizure of 71 pounds of methamphetamine, the Round Rock Police Department reported.
Police arrested Nathan Leon Fields, 36, of Theodore, Ala., after an officer initiated a traffic stop on the Honda Accord he was driving north in the 2000 block of North I-35. Officers received conflicting stories from Fields and a passenger, and a K‐9 gave a positive alert when deployed on the vehicle. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the gas tank had a false compartment which contained the drugs.
The street value of the recovered methamphetamine is estimated at nearly $2 million.
Fields was booked Saturday into the Williamson County Jail on a charge of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $70,000. The passenger was not charged.
