Round Rock Police release details on officer-involved shooting

June 8 Update: The deceased has been identified as Antonio Diaz, Hispanic male, 39 years of age. He had been staying in various hotels without a permanent residence.

The Officer who discharged his weapon is Officer Aaron Grigsby. Officer Grigsby joined the Round Rock Police Department in September 2020 as a lateral transfer.

The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers, Williamson County Justice of the Peace and Federal Bureau of Investigation.  

The Department’s last Officer-involved shooting was in January 2018.

June 7 Update: An investigation is currently under way after a male subject entered a Round Rock hotel Monday morning with a handgun. 

According to preliminary reports, Round Rock Police Department began receiving multiple calls to dispatch at approximately 9:45 a.m. regarding a man entering the lobby of Home2 Suites hotel, located at 1000 Louis Henna Blvd, with a handgun. Callers said the suspect was threatening people inside of the lobby and pointing the weapon at people.  

Officers responded within five minutes of the original calls and nearby businesses in the area were placed on lockdown. Officers entered the building and were confronted by the armed suspect. One officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect, who was later pronounced deceased on scene.

There were no other reported injuriesThe officers involved are currently on paid administrative leave per Department policy. The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers, Williamson County Justice of the Peace and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
