A new exhibit at City Arts Center in Downtown Round Rock highlights the hidden creative talents of City of Round Rock employees, with artwork ranging from poetry and photography to painting and textiles.
“Artists at Work” is on display through Sept. 6. on display at City Arts Center through Sept. 6. The show includes art by 30 City employees, with work ranging from poetry to photography, and from paintings to textiles. Featured artists are employees in Arts and Culture, Communications and Marketing, Fire, Finance, General Services, Human Resources, IT, Maintenance, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development, Police, Public Library, Public Works, and Sports Management and Tourism departments.
“It’s so gratifying to help share artists’ creativity,” said gallery manager Christina Rudofsky. “There’s so much variety in here and in every way – so many different departments represented, so many forms and styles of art, so much variety in creative expression.”
Annie Burwell, Crisis Response program manager for the Round Rock Fire Department, noted that her photography hobby has helped her find peace and has been restorative, allowing for a work-life balance that provides her best self to those she supports in crisis.
“Now, even though I’m still a little shy about it, I’m really happy to see my photos on display,” added Burwell.
“Artists at Work” will be among the final exhibits at the City Arts Center’s current location at 231 E. Main Street, adjacent to City Hall. The gallery is expected to move later this year into the Griffith Building, the former public library, across the street from its current address.
An exhibit reception for the exhibit will take place Aug. 22 from 4-7 p.m. at City Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Current summer hours for the gallery are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Admission is free of charge.
