Family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Friday, October 23, 2020, and lasts through noon on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Families are invited to decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 23 – October 29. Library staff will announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place pumpkins on Friday, November 6, 2020. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • One pumpkin entry per family may be entered into the contest. Pumpkin submissions must be based on a book and/or book character. 
  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Friday, October 23, 2020, at 10 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form – 2020.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Wednesday, October 29, 2020, at 5 pm. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • Winning families will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card: 1st place $30, 2nd place $20, and 3rd place $10.
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 5 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.

Halloween Party (ages 18 months and older) (preregistration)

Hop into your costumes and bring treats to share – the Round Rock Public Library is throwing a Halloween bash!  

Children (ages 18 months and older) and their adults are invited to enjoy stories, songs, treats, and Halloween fun. The party format will be:

  • A large-group storytime with Youth Services librarians, featuring Halloween stories and songs 
  • A treat exchange* with children placing treats into bags (participating children may take home a bag of treats at the end of the party)
  • Snacks and dancing time, featuring finger foods supplied by the families who attend**

There will be three identical parties. Please register for one date beginning Oct. 15:

    • 6:30 p.m., Monday, October 28
    • 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29
    • 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30

Please Note:

Online registration is required to ensure there is enough space for everyone. Preregister each individual child who will be participating in the treat exchange.* 

*Treat Exchange:

One fun part of the program is a reverse trick-or-treat activity. Participating kids need to preregister, and come with 24 treats to distribute into treat bags. Suggested treat ideas include individual wrapped candies, pencils, stickers, or other kid-friendly treasures. Participating kids may each take home one bag at the end of the party.

**Party snacks:

Families are encouraged to bring a plate of finger-friendly snacks that will be consumed during the party. Suggested snack ideas include fruit, cookies, chips, or muffins. Be aware that some party foods may contain allergens. Please label foods containing nut products.

Babytime Halloween party

Get your cameras ready for the Round Rock Public Library‘s cutest event–the Babytime Halloween Party!  Join us for books, songs, rhymes, and playtime. Costumes are welcome.

Decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 24 – October 31. Library staff will vote for the best literary pumpkins on Thursday, October 31, 2019. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

  • One winner will be chosen from each of the following age categories: young kids (ages 7 and under) & tweens (ages 8-12).
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by noon Friday, November 1, 2019 at 6 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.
