Family Place: Ask a Specialist

Are you a parent or caregiver of a child ages 1-4?  Join us online for our free Family Place Ask a Specialist series, Fridays at 1 p.m.

Learn about young child health and development, early literacy practices, and more.  You will be given an opportunity to ask questions to each specialist prior to the session or feel free to just join and listen. 

Register online for each session you are interested in attending.  One ticket / registration per family:

Family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Friday, October 23, 2020, and lasts through noon on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Families are invited to decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 23 – October 29. Library staff will announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place pumpkins on Friday, November 6, 2020. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • One pumpkin entry per family may be entered into the contest. Pumpkin submissions must be based on a book and/or book character. 
  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Friday, October 23, 2020, at 10 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form – 2020.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Wednesday, October 29, 2020, at 5 pm. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • Winning families will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card: 1st place $30, 2nd place $20, and 3rd place $10.
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 5 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.

Tween Book Club with author Rebecca Behrens (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

The Round Rock Library Public Library will host a tween book club and author visit on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 4:30 pm. Author Rebecca Behrens will join us online to talk about her book “The Disaster Days”. She will answer questions about her middle grade novel and writing process. 

Books will be available for library pick-up for all registered attendees. If registration is full and you are interested in joining the event, please contact Amy German at: amygerman@roundrocktexas.gov.

Scratch Programming with Fun 2 Learn Code (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

The Round Rock Public Library and Fun 2 Learn Code will host virtual Scratch computer programming classes for kids ages 8-12. Participants will build a fun race game as they learn to code using Scratch, a visual programming language for kids designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
