This information guide contains information pertaining to the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act includes a number of options in healthcare coverage. There are a wide variety of resources available online that provide information about these options, and how to choose what is best for you.

The library cannot provide recommendations on care choices for individuals but we hope to make available the necessary information for our library users to make informed decisions that best suit their needs.

November 1

Open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace begins.

December 15

The last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage to start January 1, 2016.


January 1

2016 coverage starts for those who enroll or change plans by December 15.
January 15

Last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage to start February 1, 2016.

January 31

2016 Open Enrollment ends. Enrollments or changes between January 16 and January 31 take effect March 1, 2016.

If you don’t enroll in a 2016 health insurance plan by January 31, 2016, you can’t enroll in a health insurance plan for 2016 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

The Health Insurance Marketplace will offer a new way for people without insurance to get coverage and to find out if they can get lower costs for private insurance. They can also find out if they qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

People who do not have health coverage may have to pay a fee.
