Police make arrest in propane tank thefts

At 4 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 18, Round Rock Police arrested Justin Alan Shilander (DOB 9/4/1984), a City of Round Rock employee, for theft of propane tanks at the Walgreens at 3777 Gattis School Road. During surveillance, detectives observed Shilander break into a steel cage, take eight propane tanks, and load them into the back of his truck. Detectives immediately took Shilander into custody and during an interview he admitted to three other propane tank thefts on the following dates:

  • Feb. 10, Shell Station, 806 Sam Bass Road
  • Feb. 15, Walgreens, 3777 Gattis School Road
  • Feb. 16, Walgreens, 2821 Oakmont Dr.
  • Feb. 18, Walgreens, 3777 Gattis School Road

Shilander has been employed as a Utility Worker for the City since Dec. 10, 2012. His employment with the City has been terminated as of today. This incident remains under investigation.
