Recruitment Process Timeframe
For many positions, the recruitment process takes approximately 4-6 weeks. Some positions may take longer depending on the selection process. We appreciate your patience as we work to give each application careful consideration.
Application Status and Notification
The City only accepts online applications for current job openings through GovernmentJobs. All applications are reviewed to determine whether minimum qualifications are met. After applying online:
- You will receive an email confirming that your application was received.
- Your application will be reviewed to determine whether you meet the qualifications listed in the job posting.
- If you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will be forwarded to the position’s hiring manager for review and interview consideration.
- You will receive updates about your application status by email as the recruitment process continues.
Interview Selection and Notification
Applications are screened based on the criteria listed in the job posting. The hiring manager will contact applicants selected for an interview, typically by email. If selected for an interview, the selection process may include a skill-based assessment, presentation, or practical exercise. Following an interview, candidates will receive updates (usually by email) as selection decisions are made.

- A resume may be submitted as an attachment to your application but is not in lieu of the application.

The Selection Process
The City uses basic screening filters to identify whether applicants meet the minimum qualifications for the open position, such as education, certifications or experience. Once those minimum requirements are met, your application is forwarded to the hiring manager. The hiring manager reviews every referred application to assess how well each applicant aligns with the overall needs and requirements of the position, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation for further consideration.
You will receive electronic notification that your application has been received. You can login to your GovernmentJobs.com account to review the status of your application.
No. The City does not use AI in the hiring process. We only use basic filters to identify applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications. All qualified applications are then reviewed individually by the open position’s hiring manager.
The steps of the selection process vary depending upon the position. For example, a single round of panel interviews may be all that is required for a particular position. On the other hand, applicants may be required to perform a skills-based assessment related to the position, a presentation, a practical exercise or multiple rounds of interviews for others.
You will receive notifications on the status of your application throughout the recruitment process via phone and/or email. When creating an online account, you must enter your email address and phone number. Make sure the email address and phone number you enter is accurate and current.
Interviews, Offers and Support
If you are not selected for an interview but meet minimum qualifications, your application may be placed on an eligibility list for consideration for future vacancies for that position after the career posting expires. If you are not hired during the six-month eligibility period, you must wait for another recruitment and reapply.
If you are interviewed, your application may remain on an eligibility list for consideration for future vacancies of that position after the career posting expires. If you are not hired during the six-month eligibility period, you must wait for another recruitment and reapply.
An eligibility list is created after a recruitment process closes and includes applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for a specific position. The City may use this list to fill future vacancies in the same position. Eligibility lists typically remain active for six months after the career posting closes, although the Human Resources Department may extend or close a list earlier depending on hiring needs.
Please contact the City representative who scheduled your interview to coordinate an alternative time.
If you need accommodation at any stage of the application or recruitment process, you can request one by contacting the City’s Human Resources Department. Reach out by phone or email to explain the type of assistance you need, and HR will work with you to ensure you have the appropriate support. Requests for accommodation are reviewed individually to make sure applicants have equal access and opportunity throughout the hiring process.
