Update: The suspect has been identified as Henry Tolentino, a 31-year-old white male. He was a Round Rock resident who resided on Bent Tree Loop. The following Officers discharged their weapons during Saturday’s incident: Sergeant Kasheala May, Sergeant Brian Quick, Detective Andrew Rivera, Officer Dillon Rizzo, and Officer Marcus Vasquez. Sgt. May has been with the Round Rock Police Department for 11 years, Sgt. Quick 21 years, Det. Rivera 9 years, Ofc. Rizzo 4 years, and Ofc. Vasquez 3 years. These Officers are currently on administrative leave in accordance with Department policy. The investigation is ongoing and in collaboration with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.

The Round Rock Police Department is conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in a suspect opening fire at officers Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, Round Rock police received reports of a victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the 3500 block of Bent Tree Loop.
At approximately 12:38 p.m., police received a report that a male with black trench coat and an “AK-style rifle” was running across FM 3406, and another report at approximately 12:43 p.m. stated a subject wearing camouflage clothing was seen near Behrens Ranch. Officers responded to the area, and the male subject immediately engaged officers and began firing shots at them. Officers responded with gunfire, and the subject retreated into the wood line at Camino del Verdes Place and Salorn Way.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Round Rock Police Department’s armored vehicle, and the subject began firing shots again, resulting in another gunfire exchange between the subject and officers. The subject later appeared to be located in the dense wood line. Less than lethal rounds were used by officers to solicit a response from the suspect. After no response, it was determined that the subject was deceased. The cause of the subject’s death remains under investigation. The subject was found to be wearing body armor.
The gunshot victim in the original call was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and is in stable condition. No injuries were sustained by officers as a result of gunfire, but one Round Rock officer was transported for medical issues and is in stable condition.
The Round Rock Police Department was assisted in this incident by Austin Police Department, Georgetown Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Park Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, Leander Police Department, Pflugerville Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The Texas Rangers, Round Rock Police Department and Williamson County District Attorney’s Office are also investigating the use of force per standard protocol, and any officers that discharged their weapons will be placed on standard administrative leave as a part of the investigation.
“The quick actions of these officers and the other agencies that responded prevented further harm,” said Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks. “Our primary goal is to make sure our communities are safe.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the motive of the shooter is unknown at this time.
