Don’t forget these helpful recycling tips to keep your holidays green:
Holiday Recycling Tips
Recycling the wrong items can result in the entire contents of a recycling bin ending up in the landfill. Here are some helpful tips for Round Rock residents:
Cardboard and Styrofoam
- Break down cardboard boxes from online shopping to ensure you have enough room for all recyclables in your recycling bin.
- Styrofoam, including packing peanuts, cannot be placed in your curbside recycling bin. However, Styrofoam is now accepted at the City’s Recycling Center!
Food Containers
- Detach non-recyclable items from recyclable items, and do not place food-contaminated items, such as used paper plates or pizza boxes, in your recycling bin.
- Glass is now accepted at the City’s Recycling Center (it can also be placed in your recycling bin as long as it’s not broken, has no other materials attached to it such as a metal lid, and is cleaned of any food residue).
Wrapping Paper, Ribbons and Bows
- Laminated wrapping paper, or paper that is decorated with foil or glitter, cannot be recycled. Only simple paper wrap can be recycled.
- Bows and ribbons are not recyclable — place them with your regular trash.
Christmas Lights
- Drop off unwanted or broken string lights to the following locations during regular business hours (closed for holidays on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1):
- Baca Center, 301 W. Bagdad Ave.
- City of Round Rock Utilities and Transportation – Bob Bennett Building, 3400 Sunrise Road
- Round Rock Recycling Center, 310 Deepwood Drive
Do not place holiday lights in your curbside recycling bin. Only take them to the locations above in order to recycle them.
The Recycling Center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday at 310 Deepwood Drive. Please note that the Brush Recycling Center at the same address for trees and limbs opens at 9 a.m.
The Recycling Center is closed on Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.
Christmas Trees
Need to recycle your Christmas tree? Trees can be recycled at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center located at 310 Deepwood Drive (hours listed below).
