The Clay Madsen Recreation Center is a 55,000-square foot comprehensive recreation facility. Constructed in 2000, the facility is designed to provide all-inclusive recreational opportunities with a variety of features to meet the needs of The City of Round Rock community and surrounding communities. The Clay Madsen Recreation Center was named after an inspiring young man who fought a courageous battle against cancer. CMRC strives to be a safe place where children, adults and families have a safe and fun place to play, learn, develop and recreate while learning the leadership and sportsmanship qualities that Clay Madsen upheld throughout his life.

The Clay Madsen Recreation Center has two full size gymnasiums, a six lane, 25 yard lap pool (pool opens 30 minutes after facility opening and closes 30 minutes prior to facility closing), four racquetball courts, a cardio/weight room, meeting rooms, kitchen and game room.. CMRC also offers a variety of fitness and wellness programs.
Maintenance Week Facility Closure and Modified Offerings:

Membership Guidelines
After 9 p.m., youth 12 years and under must be accompanied by a guardian 16 years or older. All members and guests must have ID cards. Replacement ID cards will be accessed at the first time visit rate of $5. Fees include access to gym, pool, racquetball courts, weight room, game room and TV room. Fees do not include classes, leagues, tournaments, events & concessions. All patrons must adhere to CMRC rules and staff. Please contact CMRC staff for more information on facility policies and procedures. CMRC staff has the right to remove anyone from the premises.
Definitions
- Family – Persons listed on the family membership have to be members of the same immediate family, living in the same household, claimed on the two adult’s IRS tax return and are under 21 years of age. A maximum of two (2) adults can be on a family membership.
- Couple– Any two (2) people who live in the same residence.
- Senior Couple – One (1) adult over 50 years of age and one (1) other person living in the same residence.
- Adult – 21 years of age and older.
- Senior – 50 years of age and older.
- Youth – 20 years of age and younger. Youths who are 17 years of age and younger must obtain a parent/guardian’s signature on the membership form before a membership will be given.

Amazing Athletes
At Amazing Athletes, we use sports as a catalyst to meet the needs of the whole child through non-competitive, multi-sports classes designed to advance each child’s individual motor-skills and inspire future participation in physical activity. Our fun, active classes encourage children to explore and develop a variety of athletic skills. Coaches break the fundamentals of each sport-based skill down into simple steps based on each child’s age and ability. Toddler & Youth Instructional Classes
The Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of instructional classes for toddlers and youth. Listed below is a summary of toddler and youth instructional classes:
Learn the Olympic sport of archery in this beginner class for ages 8 and up! Xpert Archery will shoot you straight as the skills of modern day archery will be taught through skills drills, active shooting and games. By the end of this basic course, archers will be Xperts at range safety, know thier shooting limitations and be able to group all arrows on their target.
Austin Society of Karate Instructors will teach American Karate with an emphasis on self-defense, self-esteem and self-confidence. Black uniform required after the first class and can be purchased from instructor or outside source. No refunds on uniform. Optional opportunities for advancement in the program require additional fees for tournaments and belt tests. Ages 5 – 12 years. Instructor: Austin Society of Karate.
Epic Hip Hop
Movin’ and groovin’ to the latest funky beats! Awesome cardio workouts with a new appreciation for physical fitness and fun! With basic body movements involved in the class, children will gain skill and improve their confidence. Ages 6 – 10 years.
Kinderdance
Education through Dance, Motor Development, Gymnastics, and Fitness programs blended with numbers, colors, shapes, words, and songs for children ages 2-12, taught on-site in child care facilities and other viable locations.

Lifeguard Training
The City of Round Rock hires 200+ swimming pool personnel each summer season. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course teaches participants how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies. Sportball
Sportball introduces children to the wonderful world of sports! Each class focuses on a different sport as coaches teach fundamental techniques and strive to build your child’s physical literacy. Classes are fun and high energy, and reinforce the benefits of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Analytics Robotics EV3 Mindstorm Programming
Students will work as scientists, engineers and designers with form and function in mind. With the software and hardware, they create customizable, programmable robots and make them walk, talk, move and do whatever you can imagine with today’s technology. They are provided with all Mindstorm materials from Technics such as gears, beams motors and sensors, Micro-controllers, connectors and the EV3 analytical programming skills that allow them to engage in competitive missions in small teams of 3 to 4.
Soccer Shots
Soccer Shots is a national, non-competitive skills program teaching children ages 2-8 the wonderful game of soccer. The developmentally appropriate curriculum emphasizes creative play, enjoyment of sport and character building lessons. The energetic and enthusiastic coaches love working with kids of all ages and will ensure your child has a blast learning soccer! The goal is simple: to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child served. Soccer Shots programs offered include:

Swim Lessons
Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers swim lessons during the Fall & Spring Season. We proudly use the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program and offers Private Lessons and Group Classes from Level 1 to Level 5. In addition we offer classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and adults.
Tennis
Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of tennis programs for ages 3-14. Tennis programs offered include:
Pee Wee: This tennis class for three and four year olds is a great way for a young child to improve hand-eye coordination, basic motor skills and to see how much fun the game of tennis is to play. Parent participation is required during the class.
QuickStart I: QuickStart I is a perfect first experience to tennis that’s fun, great exercise and exciting! This program uses kid-sized equipment: slower-moving and lower-bouncing balls, shorter and lighter racquets, and smaller courts. For ages 5-7 years.
QuickStart II: Using QuickStart play format, kids keep the ball in play longer, learn faster and have more FUN! This class is a great introduction to the fun and rewarding world of tennis. Emphasis is placed on learning basic movement and striking skills, as well as developing motor skills, coordination and confidence. For ages 8-10 years.
Junior Beginner: During the Junior Beginner Class, fun games and drills will be used to teach basic tennis skills. The entire court will be utilized to teach proper warm-up techniques, basic strokes, fundamental rules, scoring and tennis etiquette. For ages 11-14 years.
Junior Development: This class is for those who have shown interest in playing competitive tennis and want to play USTA tennis tournaments or improve their chances of making their school team. The emphasis of the class will be on technique, with a priority on point building to help the player be more competitive. For ages 11-16 years.
Adult Tennis: Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of tennis programs for ages 17 and older. Tennis programs offered include:
Adult Tennis Clinics: This exciting clinic is for all adult players of all levels with lots of fast paced drills and detailed instruction for players that look for that special edge over their opponent.

YOGAlegre
YOGAlegre offers yoga classes that combine the practice of breathing techniques (pranayama), poses (asana) and relaxation/visualization with the use of Spanish phrases and vocabulary. Children ages 3-8 years (plus parent/caregiver) will enjoy a 1 hour class with songs, games, stories and other activities that will make YOGA educational and easy to practice. The environment created by a yoga class promotes the introduction of a new language that kids at this age learn easily.
The Clay Madsen Recreation Center has an indoor pool available year round. Pool opens 30 minutes after facility opening and closes 30 minutes prior to facility closing. The Pool is available for lap swimming, water exercise, open recreation time, water aerobic classes, and other instructional classes and programs. AQUA-X PROGRAMS
A HITT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout. It consists of timed intervals of maximal effort followed by a shorter rest period. It is a work at your own intensity class and is appropriate for all fitness levels.
Aqua Fit (Class Max is 30)
Designed for beginner and intermediate. It is done completely in the shallow end of the pool. The class focuses on balance, core, and back training providing you a total body workout. This is low impact that integrates cardio, intervals and equipment designed for the water to reach your goals! Everyone is welcome!
Aqua Burn (Class Mas is 25)
This class is designed for the early morning Aqua Birds. Get ready to feel the muscles burn while working against the resistance of the water. Resistance equipment will be incorporated into the workout. Class will conclude with balance, flexibility, stretching and yoga poses.
Aqua Fusion (Class Mas is 30)
This class is a mixture of Aqua Zumba and toning! Come get a 50min. power packed workout of cardio to strengthen the heart then noddle and resistance work to strengthen the body!
Aqua Power (Class Max is 30)
This isn’t your average cardio choreography class! Get ready to join the aqua power party as we incorporate high intensity intervals, strength training, heart pumping movements using the buoyancy of the water and resistance equipment. All exercises can be modified so all levels can participate. Class will conclude with balance, flexibility stretching and yoga poses.
Aqua Zumba (Class Max is 25)
This class is split into 30 minute sections. The first 30 min. will be integrating the Zumba formulas and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines. Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe and challenging cardio conditioning workout. While the last 30min is about strengthening and toning!!
Deep Water (Class Max is 25)
This aqua class workout is in the deep end of the pool. You will use flotation in the deep end of the pool while getting a well rounded workout of intense core work, cardio, and strength training!
Birthday Pool Parties
If you have a birthday in the middle of the winter season but want a pool party…. don’t worry. The indoor pool at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center is available for a splashing party anytime of the year. Party rental fee includes use of a 24’X19′ room for 1 1/2 hours and use of 2 pool lanes from 1 – 4 p.m. on either a Saturday or a Sunday. For more information call 512-218-3220. The Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of after school programs, preschool programs, day camps and sports camps for children of all ages. See below for specific information for each program.
All registrations for the Kids’ Clubhouse Program will take place at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center Administration Office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
After School/Pre-school Site Programs
Kids’ Clubhouse Full Day Program
With our full day program, we will work to keep your child connected with school and will help them with their daily assignments. Your children will have a safe, supervised, structured and fun environment in our program to start the school year. The full day program will take place at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, located at 1600 Gattis School Road.
What will each day look like?
The layout of the RRISD distance learning program will determine our final program schedule. However, we anticipate the schedule will work something like the following: Students will arrive in the morning and participate in morning free time activities, the program will open for drop offs at 7 a.m. For part of the day, your child will use their devices to complete their daily activities, connect live with their teachers for an individual and small group lessons and finish any homework and assignments. We will guide your student through the distance learning program and will also facilitate meals times, breaks and outdoor play and activities. The counselors may not be able to accommodate all learning aspects but will assist the best we can. For the remainder of the day, we will switch to our after school-based program where your child will have a variety activities to take part in, such as, sports, games, arts and crafts and more. The program will close at 6 p.m. and all children will be to be pick up by that time. We will use Round Rock School District as our calendar for our program, however we will do our best to accommodate other districts online learning methods/schedules.
What is the age range?
The full day program will be available to all school-aged students. Your child does not have be a Round Rock ISD student to participate.
What should my child bring to the program?
Depending on RRISD requirements, you child will need to bring a laptop, iPad, headphones and a backpack. We anticipate RRISD will provide a list of supplies needed for virtual learning, please include these in your child’s backpack. Your child should also bring a lunch and a water bottle, we will provide a morning and an afternoon snack.
We are currently working with RRISD to be able to provided breakfast/lunch to your student using their RRISD lunch account information.
What will it cost?
The cost of the full day program will be $125 per week.
What happens when RRISD reopens to in-person classes?
When RRISD opens back up, we will continue offering the full day program if we feel that there is still a need from parents. We will also begin to offer our normal after school program which picks up from a set few elementary schools.
We did not have everything perfectly laid out at this time and we know we may need to make a few adjustments to our program and plan, but we wanted to communicate this information with parents who may be looking into their options for the fall.

Thanksgiving Camp
Gobble up some fun at our Thanksgiving camp! Every day at camp is a new adventure. The daily adventures will be filled with indoor and outdoor games, sports, cooking, arts and crafts, and field trips! Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle daily. Morning and afternoon snack is provided. For ages 5-12 years.
This program operates Monday-Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kinningham Park, during the established Round Rock School District Thanksgiving Week.
Holiday Camp
Join us this winter for some exciting holiday fun! From swimming, baking, sports activities, arts and crafts, field trips and much more! Each day has a special theme, so gear up and get ready. You won’t want to miss out on all of the surprises! Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle daily. Morning an afternoon snack is provided. Sign up for bundles or individual days. For ages 5-12 years.

UNBirthday Party
If you are wondering what an UNBirthday is, it’s really quite simple: Everyone has 1 birthday a year but 364 UNBirthdays. Individuals with special needs and their families are invited to the Play for All Park for an evening of fun as we celebrate our UNBirthdays together!
Special Needs Family Jamboree
Individuals with special needs and their families are invited to the Play for All Park to take part in a day full of games, activities, program demonstrations and opportunities to learn about Adaptive and Inclusive offerings in the area.
Special Needs Dances
Fun, themed dances for individuals with special needs include dress up contests and snacks. For ages 15 and older with special needs. Chaperone/caregiver free admission. Register in advance to have your name entered into our raffle drawings!
Dress to impress at this year’s Winter Wonderland themed dance for individuals with special needs. Dance the night away under a snow themed dance floor, socialize with friends, enjoy snacks and make fun memories! Chaperone/caregivers allowed free admission.
Special needs families are invited to a night full of wonder and amazement at the 4th annual family winter ball. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited and tickets are Pre-sale only. Each family member attending must purchase a ticket.
Play for All Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt
Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department and Dell Children’s Ascension invite you to come out the Play for All Abilities Park for our 6th Annual special needs egg hunt! This is a family-centered event, focusing on active participation for children, teens and adults with various disabilities or limitations.
