Round Rock city officials dedicate latest expansion of Rock’N River

Round Rock city officials dedicated the latest expansion of Rock’N River Water Park on Friday, May 22, marking the official opening of the park for the summer season. The expansion project, which was included in the voter-approved 2023 general obligation bond package, increases the size and capacity of the water park.

The latest expansion is the second since Rock’N River opened in 2006 with capacity for 600 guests. The initial expansion added The Quarry adventure section, the Hitching Post food truck circle, Splashville play area and Watering Hole lagoon and concessions attractions in 2016.

This year’s expansion increased daily capacity from 1,600 to 2,400 guests.

Rock’N River still maintains its “Lazy R” man-made lazy river feature, but the new “Raging R” adventure river feature in the park comes in about three times its size and larger waves.

The new section also includes cabanas, tables and other amenties available for rental. Rental bookings are now open.

Rock’N River is open this Memorial Day Weekend from noon to 6 p.m. May 22-26 before expanding to its regular summer schedule of noon to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Tuesdays, starting May 28. The park is closed on Wednesdays.

More information on Rock’N River can be found at www.roundrocktexas.gov/river. For full information on pool schedules, admission and rentals, visit www.roundrocktexas.gov/pools.

Note: Construction on Harrell Parkway remains ongoing as part of improvements in Old Settlers Park. Visitors traveling to Rock’N River Water Park should use Heritage Crossing, the new roadway connecting Kenney Fort Boulevard to Harrell Parkway, and follow posted signs and detours. The route provides access to the water park while construction continues in the area.

Old Settlers Park expansion effort rolls on

The 2023 bond included multiple projects at Old Settlers Park, which are in varying stages of completion. The projects include:

Lakeview Pavilion and Stage — Recently completed, the main special events area in Old Settlers Park now features a permanent stage and a larger pavilion than previously available. It also comes with a new, larger restroom facility, new Joanne Land Playground and upgraded infrastructure for special events.

Tennis and Pickleball Courts — Recently completed, the project included relocation of the previous tennis complex to the Adult Recreation Complex at the corner of T.C. Oatts Lane and Red Bud Lane. The site also includes dedicated pickleball courts, shade structures and additional parking.

Multipurpose Complex Expansion — Currently under construction, the 60-acre outdoor Multipurpose Complex opened in 2017 and draws thousands of spectators from across the country each year.

This project will construct six additional fields and collegiate-level press boxes to provide more space for local team practices and draw additional tournaments for sports tourism.

Athletic Performance Center — Following a Needs Assessment in 2021, the City is constructing an indoor gym, outdoor track and four multipurpose fields. The site will also provide additional parking in Old Settlers Park and accommodate administrative functions for the Parks and Recreation Department, which are currently housed in Downtown Round Rock.
