Earl Hairston, former Round Rock City Councilmember and a retired Army officer, will be the keynote speaker at a Round Rock Veterans Day ceremony.

Activities will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Park, 600 Pecan Ave. There will be a presentation of colors, acknowledgement of military veterans, patriotic music and dedication of recognition plaques for the Veterans Monument dedicated at the park in May.

The monument was built by the City as a place of honor and remembrance for all who are serving or have served to protect and defend our American heritage. It is where veterans can show their pride for having served; families and friends can honor their veterans for their service; and citizens and businesses can support the recognition of those with a historical attachment to Round Rock.

Hairston served on the City Council from 1998-2001. He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2013, serving two tours in Afghanistan and one in Africa as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Hairston also served in the Gulf War.

Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins will discuss the process to obtain plaques and to provide donations to further support the Veterans Monument.
