Austin man charged with aggravated assault

At approximately 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, Round Rock Police officers responded to the 3000 block of Joe DiMaggio Boulevard, in reference to an assault in progress call where a female reported her ex-boyfriend had attacked her with a hammer. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The female was transported to a local hospital suffering from severe injuries.

During the initial investigation, the suspect was identified as Stephen Philip Mjos, 62, of Austin. It was later discovered that Mjos had attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge in Georgetown, but was unsuccessful. He was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Mjos has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Body Injury Family Violence.
