City breaks ground on new fire station at La Frontera

The City of Round Rock broke ground on a new fire station Monday, Aug. 12 in the La Frontera shopping center.

The new Station 3 will be located at 201 Sundance Parkway, replacing the existing Station 3 that was built in 1991 on Rawhide Drive. Council approved the purchase of the two acres of land for the new building on May 10, 2018. Station 3 will serve the southwestern Round Rock area, including La Frontera, the Chisholm Valley neighborhood and Dell campus.

“This new station will improve response times and give our firefighters the ability to better serve a growing area in Round Rock,” said Mayor Craig Morgan.

“By analyzing at our data, we saw the opportunity to relocate new Station 3 in a popular retail and restaurant corridor while providing strategic access to major roadways for maximum efficiency in our response,” said Fire Chief Robert Isbell.

The new 11,500 sq. ft. station will house an engine, aerial fire apparatus, Williamson County EMS ambulance crew and provide additional space for future growth. Also included in the layout is an office for Round Rock Police Department employees to use for completing paperwork and meet with the public while on duty.

Round Rock residents approved funding for the relocation of Station 3 in the 2013 bond election. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2019 with completion in late 2020.
