The City Council approved a $1.46 monthly rate increase for residential trash and recycling services at its Thursday, Jan. 25, meeting. Round Rock Refuse, the service provider, requested a new rate to offset increased costs for landfill fees, fuel and overhead.
The new rate, including sales tax and administrative costs, increases to $20.52 per month from $19.06 per month. Increased landfill costs account for $1 of the increase. Landfill costs have increased an average of 5 percent per year since 2009. Other major components of the requested increase include fuel (11 cents) and overhead (25 cents).
The rate change requires two votes. The new rate will be reflected on the February utility bill.
The last rate increase for customers occurred in January 2014.
