City of Round Rock lifeguards take home first place in state competition

City of Round Rock lifeguards won first place in a state championship hosted Monday, July 31, at the 2023 Texas Lifeguard Competition.

This was the first Round Rock guard team to earn a state championship title in the program’s history. The champions competed against lifeguard teams from across the state of Texas, all of whom had qualified by earning a top three title at their respective regional competitions.

Lifeguard teams were judged on their recognition, response time, skill performance, teamwork, communication and ability to work under pressure in responding to multi-layered scenarios and mock rescue situations. Members of the championship competition team from Round Rock dedicated extensive hours to their skill development in performing water rescues and water safety protocols — the same tenants that guide the city’s lifeguard team in their daily work at City of Round Rock pools.

Mayor Craig Morgan and Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins congratulating the state champs

City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation lifeguards have earned multiple local, state, and national awards for their dedication to safety, training, and culture.  They were featured in the May 2023 edition of the National Recreation and Park’s Association’s Magazine showcasing their programs and practices.
