City of Round Rock offices closed Thursday, Friday — here’s what else you need to know

Due to forecasted inclement weather, City of Round Rock offices and facilities, including Round Rock Public LibraryMunicipal CourtBaca Center, Clay Madsen Recreation Center, and Utility Billing Office, will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4.

Due to landfill closures, Round Rock Refuse will not pick up garbage and recycling on Thursday or Friday.

For residential customers:

  • Pickup normally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3 will be picked up this Saturday, Feb. 5
  • Friday, Feb. 4 will be picked up Monday, Feb. 7
  • Monday, Feb. 7 will be picked up Tuesday, Feb. 8
  • Tuesday, Feb. 8 will be picked up Wednesday, Feb. 9
  • Wednesday, Feb. 9 will be picked up Thursday, Feb. 10
  • Thursday, Feb. 10 will be picked up Friday, Feb. 11
  • Friday, Feb. 11 will be picked up Saturday, Feb. 12

Other City services will be impacted as follows:

  • Fixed route and ADA paratransit bus services in Round Rock will not run on Thursday or Friday.
  • Municipal Court cases set for Thursday morning will be rescheduled to a later date. Most cases can be paid online at roundrocktexas.gov/municipalcourt.
  • Utility bills can be paid online at rrtxwater.com or by calling 1-855-894-2392 (Be sure to select “#” after your CID number and Account number, i.e. XXXXXX# XXXXXX#). A deposit box is located at the corner of Bagdad Avenue and Sheppard Street at City Hall, 221 E. Main Street, in addition to a freestanding deposit box on the east side of of the building. Check or money orders only.

A mix of freezing rain and sleet has produced ice accumulations on roadways, and windchills are expected to stay below 0 degrees through 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Winter weather resources in Round Rock

  • Round Rock residents in need of emergency shelter can call 512-218-5500.
  • Oncor is the electricity provider in the City of Round Rock. Report power outages through Oncor’s Storm Center website (https://bit.ly/RRTXOutage), by calling 888-313-4747 or texting OUT to 66267 if you have registered for My Oncor Alerts. To register for My Oncor Alerts, text REG to 66267.
  • In the case of busted pipes, Round Rock residents should turn off water flow into the home at the shut-off valve located by their meter and then call a plumber to make the repair. If assistance is needed to get water shut off to your house, you can call the Utility Department at 512-218-5555.
  • Limbs that are blocking roads or sidewalks in the City of Round Rock can be reported by calling 512-688-0398. Any fallen trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.
  • If you must travel, you can monitor road conditions by visiting drivetexas.org or calling 1-800-452-9292.

How the City is preparing

  • The Parks and Recreation Department has winterized all pools, fountains and restrooms, and all irrigation systems have been turned off.
  • Generators that help power essential City services in the case of a power outage are ready with full fuel tanks and diesel additive to prevent freezing.
  • Snow chains and anti-gel has been distributed throughout the City for employee vehicles.
  • Forestry equipment is ready to handle an increase in debris caused by downed trees.
  • Transportation crews monitor bridges and began pre-treating elevated roads and hills within the City of Round Rock Wednesday evening. During the storm, crews have been focusing on sanding these critical areas to ensure a safe pathway for public safety services.
  • The City’s Water Treatment Plant and all elevated tanks were completely filled before the start of the winter weather event. In the last year, the City installed a cellular communication system that provides more reliable and robust control of the SCADA system that controls the City’s entire water distribution system.
  • Additional City staff are on call, including additional Police and Fire Department personnel who are prepared for a potential increase in emergency EMS and police calls.

How residents can prepare

  • Be sure to take care of people, pipes, pets and plants.
  • Trickle water from one faucet in your home during freezing temperatures. If your pipes burst, turn off water flow into the home at the shut-off valve located by your meter and then call a plumber to make the repair.
  • Turn off your irrigation/sprinkler systems to avoid damage and freezing due to the cold temperatures that are being forecast. Runoff from sprinklers causes hazardous conditions on roadways.   • Register your cell phone number and/or email address with Warn Central Texas to receive emergency alerts from local officials by text, phone and/or email.
