The Round Rock Police Department continues its investigation into the fatal collision between a motorist and bicyclist that occurred Tuesday morning, Dec. 17.

Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of southbound frontage IH 35 around 6:45 a.m. A preliminary investigation shows the driver of a four-door Mercury Milan struck the bicyclist from behind in the outside lane of the frontage road. The deceased has been identified as Joseph Holan, 44, of Georgetown. The driver has been identified as Travis Talley, 34, of Taylor.

Talley told police he was trying to switch lanes when he hit the cyclist. He said he did not see the cyclist. The area of the collision is not well-lit and was dark at that time of day. The cyclist was wearing a bike helmet and a reflective vest. The bike had lights attached. Investigators are looking into whether the lights were working at the time of collision. Speed, alcohol and drugs are not factors in this incident.

This is an ongoing investigation.  At this time, the driver has not been charged.

It is legal for bicyclists to ride on frontage roads.
