The Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) Board of Directors welcomed Karen Bondy, P.E., as BCRUA’s new General Manager, effective Aug. 1. Bondy, a 36-year water industry veteran, recently retired after nearly 20 years with the Lower Colorado River Authority. She replaces Tom Gallier, who is returning to full-time retirement after serving as BCRUA’s General Manager since April 2013.

“We’re thrilled to hire someone with Karen’s outstanding experience and background to run the BCRUA,” said Andrea Navarrette, BCRUA board president. “And we’d also like to thank Tom Gallier for his exemplary service to the organization.”

In 1998, Bondy began a 20-year career with LCRA. During her tenure with LCRA, Bondy oversaw key water resource planning and construction projects, including LCRA’s Water Management Plan (WMP) updates, and developing the $250 million Arbuckle Reservoir Project. The Arbuckle Reservoir Project is key to maximizing Highland Lakes storage during future droughts.

As BCRUA’s General Manager, Bondy will oversee an expansion of BCRUA’s treatment system, while completing final design and construction of the Phase 2 Deep Water Intake in Lake Travis.

“I’m excited to take the reins of this regional partnership at such an important juncture in its history,” Bondy said. “And I’m grateful for the board’s confidence in me as we begin working on the next phase of the project.”

During Gallier’s tenure, he oversaw final completion and start-up of BCRUA’s first phase, and preliminary planning and financing of the Phase 2 Deep Water Intake project.

“I am extremely pleased to be handing off leadership of BCRUA to such an accomplished and capable water industry professional,” Gallier said. “Karen will see BCRUA through its next critical growth phase, and help our three member cities achieve a solid, more drought proof water supply for both current and future residents.”

The BCRUA, a partnership of the cities of Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock, has developed a water intake, treatment and distribution system to serve the three partner cities. It draws water from Lake Travis through contracts with the LCRA.
