Lane shifts continue on FM 3406 bridge project

The Texas Department of Transportation has provided the following update on the FM 3406 bridge replacement project:

Now that traffic has switched to the new southbound I-35 frontage road, crews are upgrading drainage and elevating driveways several feet to tie into the new frontage road. Work has slowed due to rain, and there is more in the forecast. This driveway work cannot be performed safely in wet conditions. The project team anticipates that driveways will remain closed for several more weeks.

In the meantime, a similar traffic switch is planned for the northbound frontage road. Beginning Thursday morning, Sept. 20, the northbound frontage road traffic will switch to the newly constructed frontage road at FM 3406. Please be aware of lane shifts and temporary closures as crews begin to install drainage structures and reconstruct driveways. Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the upcoming changes. Alternative access to affected businesses will still be available on Mays Street and FM 3406. MAP

The frontage road and driveway improvements are anticipated to take approximately one month to complete, weather permitting.

Full project completion is still expected later this fall. We appreciate your patience while we work to finish these improvements as quickly as possible.
