At about 7:55 p.m. Sunday, June 16, Round Rock Police responded to a road rage incident that involved a shooting near the intersection of Mays Street and U.S. 79.
Ralph Gambles, 31, of Austin was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, after shooting Andrew Bettan in the thigh following an altercation in business parking lot. Prior to the shooting, witnesses say the two appeared to have been engaged in an argument while driving.
Bettan exited his sport utility vehicle and walked to a red Acura occupied by Gambles. As Bettan reached the driver side of Gambles’ vehicle, Bettan used the vehicle door and pushed Gambles back into his vehicle. Gambles reported he then retrieved his .40 caliber handgun from inside of his waistband, exited his vehicle, pointed his gun at Bettan and fired, striking Bettan once.
