Construction is officially underway on the new Joanne Land Playground at Old Settlers Park, a major park improvement funded through the voter-approved 2023 G.O. bond projects.
The new play structure will be more than twice the size of the former playground, which originally opened in 2017 and was one of the most heavily used playgrounds in Round Rock. While playgrounds in the City’s park system are typically designed with an approximate 15-year lifecycle, the former Joanne Land Playground required frequent repairs due to its extremely high use.
Features of the new playground include:
- A large, modern play structure designed for high-capacity use
- Integrated lighting to support evening play during concerts and special events
- Poured-in-place rubber surfacing
- Plastic play components designed to reduce heat absorption
- A separate play area for younger children, along with swings adjacent to the main structure
The playground is located near the recently completed amphitheater and pavilion area at Old Settlers Park.
Construction is expected to be completed later this spring.
