The Round Rock Police Department will soon complete a quaternary review required to retain its status as a fully accredited agency, a highly prized distinction that the Department has maintained since its initial accreditation in 2004.  This voluntary process of obtaining accreditation imparts upon the Department a national recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Round Rock Police Department Training Academy will soon complete a review required to achieve the status of a fully accredited Academy. The Academy received its TCOLE license in 2018 and this is the first opportunity to be considered for CALEA accreditation.

Beginning August 10, 2020, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will examine all aspects of the Department’s policy and procedures, management operations and support services. The assessment team comprises law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state police agencies that are characteristically similar to the Round Rock Police Department and includes: Team Leader Colonel David Wolf from Olivette PD in Missouri, Lieutenant Steve Sanders, Garden Grove PD in California, and retired Chief Louis Moreto from Manalapan Township PD in New Jersey.  

The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and preform virtual tours of offices and other facilities where the assessment team can verify that the Round Rock Police Department is in constant and continuous compliance with nearly 400 of the Commission’s state-of-the-art professional standards. As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a series of telephone and virtual public information sessions:

• Police Department: On Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the public will have access to the assessors through dedicated phone line to the assessors’ work area.
• Police Department: On Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 at 7 p.m., a virtual public information session will be held via online videoconference. 
• Training Academy: On Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the public will have access to the assessors through dedicated phone line to the assessors’ work area.

Comments offered during public information session must address the Round Rock Police Department’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Virtual and telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes per person.
