Round Rock is taking the next steps toward creating a more connected trail system that makes it easier for residents to walk, bike and explore the community.

City Council adopted an updated Trails Master Plan on Sept. 10 that provides a long-term guide for connecting parks, neighborhoods, schools, businesses and downtown. The plan builds on Round Rock’s existing trail system, with a continued focus on closing gaps along Brushy Creek while also identifying opportunities for future trails in other parts of the city, including northwest Round Rock and the Dry Creek and Chandler Creek areas.

The goal is to make trails more than places for recreation. A better-connected system can also provide residents with additional ways to travel around the city, connect to destinations and gather with the community.

Council also approved the construction contract for Heritage Trail East, one of the remaining sections of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail.  The project will extend the trail from Mays Street to Georgetown Street along the north side of Brushy Creek and include connections beneath existing bridges.

Once complete, Heritage Trail East will close a key gap in the Brushy Creek Trail and complete an important east-west connection through Round Rock. Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months.
