Funeral for Officer Charles Whites set for Wednesday, May 2

It is with heavy hearts that the Round Rock Police Department announces the passing of Officer Charles Whites on April 27 at Hospice Austin Christopher House. Officer Whites died from injuries sustained on Feb. 25 when he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic around the scene of an auto-pedestrian fatality on IH-35 in Round Rock. Officer Whites served the community for 19 years as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and SWAT Negotiator. He is survived by his wife and step-son.

“We are devastated by the passing of Officer Charles Whites,” Police Chief Allen Banks said. “Our heart breaks for Connie and all of Charles’ family. Charles was a great officer and an even better person. The past two months have shown how strong and close-knit we are as a Department. The support we’ve received from the Round Rock community, surrounding communities, and regional first responders has been inspiring. We will continue to lean on this strength and support as we remember Charles and honor his many years of public service.”

A Celebration of Life service for Officer Whites will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Shoreline Church, 15201 Burnet Road, Austin. Immediately following the service full law enforcement honors will be conducted, including a procession back to Beck Funeral Home, 15709 RR 620.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Officer Whites encourages contributions to the Round Rock Police Officers Association.

Statement from Mayor Craig Morgan:

“Officer Charles Whites paid the ultimate price to protect our community, and we are profoundly saddened by his passing. On behalf of the City of Round Rock, I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, and I ask all our citizens to join me in praying for the family, colleagues and friends he leaves behind.”

Statement from City Manager Laurie Hadley:

“Today is an extremely sad day for our City family because we have lost a treasured member of our team. Officer Charles Whites was an outstanding person and a valued employee, and he will be deeply missed. I offer our sincerest condolences to his wife, Connie, and Charles’ family.”
