Round Rock police help “Light up the Holidays”

The Round Rock Police Department and City of Round Rock’s Community Development Division recently came together to bring holiday cheer to residents in need.

On Nov. 30, 12 officers assisted in putting up Christmas lights at four homes of Round Rock residents who are clients of Meals on Wheels as part of the “Light up the Holidays” initiative that started in 2017. These homebound seniors receive a freshly cooked lunch delivered by volunteers five days a week. Recipients of the service said that they would enjoy the opportunity to decorate their homes for the holidays but cannot due to physical limitations.

Round Rock Home Depot, which previously teamed up with the City to build the City’s Tool Lending Center, donated 2,400 brand new LED holiday lights to enhance the residents’ homes for the holidays. RRPD also brought cookies to each of the residents’ homes to enjoy as they decorated and helped with yard work.

“This is such a blessing,” one recipient said. “I don’t have family locally and I can’t afford to pay a company to put up lights even though I really love having lights. Having these outstanding officers help me is just so wonderful. They are so happy to help and it makes me feel special.”
