Holiday Recycling Tips

Recycling the wrong items can result in the entire contents of a recycling bin ending up in the landfill. Here are some helpful tips for Round Rock residents:

Cardboard and Styrofoam

  • Break down cardboard boxes from online shopping to ensure you have enough room for all recyclables in your recycling bin.
  • Styrofoam, including packing peanuts, cannot be placed in your curbside recycling bin. However, Styrofoam is now accepted at the City’s Recycling Center!

Food Containers

  • Detach non-recyclable items from recyclable items, and do not place food-contaminated items, such as used paper plates or pizza boxes, in your recycling bin.
  • Glass is now accepted at the City’s Recycling Center.

Wrapping Paper, Ribbons and Bows

  • Laminated wrapping paper, or paper that is decorated with foil or glitter, cannot be recycled. Only simple paper wrap can be recycled.
  • Bows and ribbons are not recyclable — place them with your regular trash.

Christmas Lights

Do not place holiday lights in your curbside recycling bin — only take them to the locations above in order to recycle them.

The Recycling Center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday at 310 Deepwood Drive — please note that the Brush Recycling Center for trees and limbs opens at 9 a.m.

Christmas Trees

Need to recycle your Christmas tree? Trees can be recycled at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center, 310 Deepwood Drive. The trees will be shredded into mulch which is free to Round Rock residents for pickup at the recycling center. Be sure to remove all decorations, nails, wires, ornaments, tree stands, lights and tinsel before bringing in your tree.

*Regular business hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The City of Round Rock will host two special Christmas tree recycling events on Saturday, Dec. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center located at 310 Deepwood Drive. Small tree seedlings (while supplies last/one per vehicle) will be distributed at these events.
