Smoking on patio sparks Round Rock duplex fire

At 3:53 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, Round Rock Fire Department units responded to a report of a fire at duplex at 1938 Nicole Circle.

The first Fire Department units arrived and reported the structure was 50 percent involved. First responders went into rescue mode when learning there were residents still possibly inside. Round Rock Police assisted with evacuations of the residence and nearby residences.

No one was injured by the fire. Damage to the residence is estimated at $50,000. Six residents were displaced from the duplex; the Red Cross is assisting them with housing.

The last Fire Department units cleared the scene at 6:12 a.m.

The fire was determined to be caused by a resident smoking on the patio. The fire traveled up the outside of the residence and into the attic.
