Teen Advisory Board member receives national honor

From l to r: Jane Dance, Teen Librarian, and Parul

Earlier this year Round Rock Public Library Teen Advisory Board member, Parul, was selected to be an EngineerGirl Ambassador, and receive training and support from the National Academy of Engineers. She is one of only 24 teen Ambassadors from around the country to be chosen to design and implement a project in her local community. This national program encourages younger girls to think about engineering careers and gives them experience in engineering design.

Teen Librarian Jane Dance mentored Parul and recently traveled with her to Washington, DC for a two-day training at the National Academy of Engineering. Participants learned how to design a STEM/engineering program, promote it, and reach girls who have little access to engineering role models. Ongoing training and support will be provided online over the coming months.

Parul is excited to be offering her program next year in the new library. She will present a series of classes on coding and will include fun projects, challenges and guest speakers. More details coming early next year!
