Traffic signal controller upgrades scheduled January 22-25 - City of Round Rock

Traffic signal controller upgrades scheduled January 22-25

City transportation crews will perform traffic signal controller upgrades at 89 intersections January 22-25.

The upgrades will allow for better communication between the City’s traffic management center (TMC) and each of the intersections. This communication improves timing and coordination of traffic flow throughout the City. The signal upgrades will require each of the 89 intersections to be placed into flashing red for approximately 15 minutes.

Major intersections will be completed at night and the remaining intersections will be completed during the day.  In addition, upgrades to the City’s traffic management software at the TMC will be completed during this time frame.

The TMC is a manned communications nexus for monitoring, servicing, and controlling all of the traffic signals under the City’s responsibility.
