Chisholm Trail South Improvements
The City of Round Rock is planning for upgrades to Chisholm Trail Road between Sam Bass Road and RM 620. This project will include pavement reconstruction, sidewalk upgrades, and improvements to utility and drainage infrastructure.
Construction for the Chisholm Trail South Improvements project began in July 2025 and is anticipated to last through summer 2026. During construction, detours will be put in place.
Details of Detour during Construction
Project update: February 2026
Traffic has been temporarily re-routed off a portion of Chisholm Trail Road as that improvement project continues.
The segment from Round Rock Avenue north to Sunset Drive, approximately a quarter-mile, has been closed to through traffic after construction crews encountered a utility issue.
Northbound traffic has been routed to northbound Interstate 35 frontage, then to southbound I-35 frontage, and west to Sunset Drive. Traffic on Chisholm Trail Road will be northbound only from Sunset to Sam Bass Road.
The detour is expected to be in place for at least three weeks.
Project Update: January 2026
Construction has resumed.
Currently Atmos Gas has utility work at the north end of the project so our contractor is focusing on competing activities near the south end of the project. As Atmos progresses with their work, our contractor will follow behind completing storm sewer construction.
The project is scheduled for completion summer 2026.
