This project is a part of the Transportation Master plan.  Proposed improvements for Segment 3 include: widening the existing four-lane roadway to a six-lane major divided arterial, pedestrian improvements, bicycle enhancements, right and left turn bays at A. W. Grimes Boulevard and Double Creek Drive.  Median improvements to improve traffic flow and enhance safety include a raised center median and median openings at Southcreek Drive and Joyce Lane.

The design of the project has been completed and the project was bid on February 27, 2024.  The low bidder was Cash Construction and a Notice to Proceed was issued to them on August 26, 2024.  The actual construction work began on the 28^th of August.  The contractor continues with the first phase of the project and expected to last until early Spring.  The total project timeline is approximately 2 years.

Project Update: January 2026

Work continues on roadway illumination and at Windy Park. Portions of the roadway east of AW Grimes have received final pavement and striping. Traffic signal installation is nearly complete and is awaiting new electric meters for the switchover. Double Creek has been opened, and nearly all lanes east of AW Grimes are now open to traffic. The project is anticipated to be finalized by February.
