City proclaims Indigenous Peoples’ Day and National Native American Heritage Month

Mayor Craig Morgan and the City Council proclaimed October 13, 2025 as Indigenous Peoples’ Day and November 2025 as National Native American Heritage Month in the City of Round Rock at the October 9 City Council meeting. The proclamation was accepted by Historic Preservation Commission Chair Richard Parson, Vice-Chair Sharon Whitaker, Commissioner Shagufta Ellam, Commissioner Gavin Peterson, Long-Range Planning Manager Joelle Jordan, Senior Planner Lily Park, and Planners Kerstin Harding and Pramistha Joshi. The text of the proclamation follows:

OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock acknowledges that it is situated on the traditional and ancestral homelands of, among others, the Tonkawa, Comanche, Lipan Apache, and Tawakoni tribes; and

WHEREAS, these lands were historically inhabited and cultivated by Indigenous peoples from time immemorial, thereby warranting respect and recognition for their contributions to our shared heritage; and

WHEREAS, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous communities, not only in our locality but throughout the Nation; and

WHEREAS, National Native American Heritage Month in November calls attention to the culture, traditions, and achievements of the Nation’s original inhabitants and of their descendants; and

WHEREAS, During National Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate the countless contributions of Native peoples past and present, honor the influence they have had on the advancement of our Nation; and

WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock is committed to fostering equity, understanding, respect, and inclusivity among all its citizens and to acknowledging the historical context that has shaped the Indigenous communities’ presence in the region; and

WHEREAS, In recognizing their history, culture, and land stewardship, we commit to fostering understanding, respect, and inclusivity for Indigenous communities in Round Rock;

Now, Therefore, I, Craig Morgan, Mayor of the City of Round Rock, do hereby proclaim October 13, 2025 as “INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY”

 AND, I do hereby proclaim November 2025 as “NATIONAL NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH”

in the City of Round Rock, Texas, and urge all citizens to recognize and participate in this observance. PROCLAIMED this 9th day of October, 2025. MAYOR CRAG MORGAN
