The Round Rock City Council voted on second reading to approve a proposed update to Round Rock’s garbage collection rates for homes and businesses.
Under the City’s contract with Republic Services, the City’s waste collection provider, rates may be adjusted each year based on inflation, using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for garbage and trash collection. Any annual increase is capped at 5%. The July 2025 CPI showed a 6.3% increase, so Republic requested the maximum 5% rate adjustment allowed by the contract.
The monthly residential service rate will increase by from $18.77 to $19.71, effective Nov. 1, 2025. The City also includes a $3.10 administrative fee to help fund operations like the Recycling Center on Deepwood Drive. With taxes included, the total residential cost will increase from $23.67 to $24.69 per month.
Commercial and Downtown Solid Waste District rates will also increase by 5%. These rates include administrative or support fees that help fund the City’s solid waste and recycling programs, along with street maintenance.

Round Rock offers the following services to its residential customers:
Round Rock residents can place up to seven additional items at the curb each week along with their trash cart. Each item must weigh less than 40 pounds and be no larger than 4 feet. Acceptable extra items include bags or boxes of household waste, bundled brush, small furniture and small non-Freon appliances.
This year, Round Rock transitioned from a one-time, citywide spring cleanup event to an on-demand bulk pickup system. Residents now receive one free bulk pickup per calendar year, which they can schedule at their convenience to align with their regular collection day. Each pickup is limited to five cubic yards.
The City also enhanced its Household Hazardous Waste program, making it easier for residents to safely dispose of materials like paint, batteries and household chemicals. Instead of limited monthly collection days, items are now accepted Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. at no cost to residents.
