There’s good news for drivers on Gattis School Road — Segment 3 is wrapping up earlier than originally expected and is currently on track for final paving in February. After more than a year of lane shifts and construction activity, this major project is set to become the next roadway improvement in Round Rock to reach the finish line.
Round Rock continues to make significant investments in transportation, with almost $200 million in active roadway construction currently underway citywide. This level of investment is meant to create more capacity and connectivity in the Round Rock’s road network to better support growth and reduce congestion, both now and into the future.
If Gattis School Road Segment 3 is completed in February 2026 as currently expected, that will be more than half a year earlier than its original expected completion in fall 2026. This project focuses on the section of Gattis School Road between A.W. Grimes Boulevard and Double Creek Drive. When finished, the roadway will expand from four lanes to six lanes, with new medians, dedicated turn lanes, improved intersections and upgraded shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
Looking ahead, Gattis School Road drivers should be aware that Segment 6, which runs from Via Sonoma Trail to Red Bud Lane, is expected to begin construction in early 2026 as work continues to modernize the entire Gattis School Road corridor.

Beyond Gattis School Road, several other major transportation projects are advancing and are expected to wrap up by late 2026. These include the Wyoming Springs Boulevard extension from Creekbend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard, the County Road 112 project from A.W. Grimes Boulevard to County Road 110 and the Old Settlers Boulevard extension from Red Bud Lane to County Road 110. In north Round Rock, work continues on the Red Bud Lane North widening project from U.S. 79 to County Road 117, while Chisholm Trail South improvements, spanning Sam Bass Road to RM 620, are currently paused for the holiday season and will resume in early 2026.
