City Council approves $5.1 million in neighborhood street maintenance

Round Rock City Council approved a street maintenance contract at its March 27 meeting that will improve the state of several neighborhood roads throughout the City.

The $5.1 million contract with Lone Star Paving will provide for repairs to roads in the Kensington Place, Southern Terrace, and Round Rock Ranch neighborhoods. The work includes milling and new asphalt overlay, pavement patching, and failed curb, sidewalk and driveway approach repairs. Projects are selected based on the structural condition of the pavement or pavement condition index (PCI).

Work is expected to begin in May and conclude in October.

The Transportation Department’s street maintenance program aims to preserve and improve the conditions of existing roadways by monitoring the state of its roadways and systematically repairing or repaving the top layers of City streets as needed. Over the last decade, the City has invested $27.7 million in arterial street maintenance and $41.4 million in neighborhood street maintenance. The City manages more than 1,150 lane miles of roadways within its jurisdiction.
