Transportation

The Transportation Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of transportation infrastructure improvements in the City of Round Rock. Some of those items are: new street construction, street maintenance, traffic signals and signs, construction inspections and public transportation. To accomplish some of these tasks the City coordinates and works with our regional partners, such as Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The department works closely with the Transportation and Economic Development Corporation board, which oversees the Type B sales tax collection and disbursement.

We’re highlighting various aspects of our work in the Street Cred video series. Here’s the latest installment:

Meet the Director of the Transportation Department

Gary Hudder, who has 28 years of transportation and civil construction experience, was hired as the City’s Transportation Director in August 2011.  He brings with him a diverse background in road construction, civil construction, transportation management and construction materials management.

In the past, Gary worked in the private sector as a business manager and owner.  He began working in the public sector in 2010.  His skills and experience were utilized to create operational efficiencies and streamline business practices, which positively affected delivery and financial management of projects for taxpayers.  Gary’s extensive business restructuring and start-up experience contributes to his personal mission of delivering faster results, by eliminating unnecessary procedural red tape. Gary’s hands-on approach to planning and implementation of projects has delivered successful results many times over in the heavy/highway industry, municipal road construction and commercial site preparation.

“I’m excited about the opportunities in Round Rock, and we have a great staff here that’s eager to deliver completed projects for our citizens,” Gary said.

Gary grew up in Arizona and graduated from Chaparral College with a degree in Business Administration.
