City of Round Rock wins third consecutive state lifeguard title

The City of Round Rock has captured its third consecutive state lifeguard title.

Two City lifeguard teams advanced to the annual Texas Lifeguard Championship, hosted by Texas Public Pool Council on Aug. 4 in College Station. The teams qualified for state at a regional event in Pflugerville on July 21.

Capturing first overall was the team consisting of members Summer Farraje, Jaccob Lee, Maddie Helmcamp, Cristina Orlate and Tyler Fay.

Lifeguard coaches and City Aquatics managers are Ragan Barrow, Malu Camargo, Molly Kirkendall, Zander Keating and Nichole Bohner.

The win marks the first time the City of Round Rock has captured three consecutive state championships at the annual event.

At the competition, teams are judged on their recognition, response time, skill performance, teamwork, communication, and ability to work under pressure in responding to multi-layered scenarios and mock rescue situations.

City of Round Rock Lifeguard teams undergo extensive job training and skill audits to ensure they are capable in response to emergencies at city facilities.
