City offers mental health resources following Juneteenth

The City of Round Rock is offering mental health resources to help individuals and families heal in the aftermath of Saturday evening’s shooting at the Juneteenth event.

The City of Round Rock’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) is a dedicated team within the Round Rock Fire Department that specializes in providing immediate and compassionate assistance to individuals experiencing a crisis. CRU, which was created in 2022, is equipped to handle a variety of situations, ranging from mental health emergencies to traumatic incidents, ensuring that those in distress receive the care and support they need.

“We encourage everyone affected by this tragedy to understand the importance of prioritizing your mental health and take advantage of these resources,” said Crisis Response Unit Program Manager Annie Burwell. “Together, as a community, we can support each other and begin the process of healing.”

The Round Rock Fire Department’s Crisis Response Unit can be reached during special extended office hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Sunday, June 16 through Friday, June 21 by calling 512-218-5501. Team members will be available to answer calls and provide guidance and education, and to set up an in-person appointment if needed.

Outside of CRU’s extended office hours, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s Disaster Distress Helpline is available 24/7 to U.S. residents who are experiencing psychological distress as a result of a natural or human-caused disaster. Multiple languages are available by calling or texting 1-800-985-5990. Options are also available for Deaf and Hard of Hearing ASL Callers.
