Enrollment for Junior Police Academy starts Feb. 27

Round Rock’s youth get an exciting week of real police work during the 2017 Junior Police Academy (JPA). The camp strengthens connections between law enforcement and local youth giving them a chance to see what it’s like to be a police officer over their summer vacation. Online enrollment is closed.

Geared to kids ages 8-14, the camp is Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Police Department, 2701 N. Mays St. School Resource Officers lead the JPA, which is free and open to all students who attend school within the Round Rock ISD boundaries.

The academy’s curriculum includes traffic safety, first aid, anti-alcohol and drug education, handcuffing and self-defense. Students also get a first-hand look inside Patrol and SWAT vehicles, K-9 units, and a fire truck. The academy includes field trips throughout the Central Texas area and concludes with a graduation, which acknowledges their endurance and hard work.
