During every day of Winter Storm Fern, Round Rock Fire Department’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) has been at work around the clock in the community, helping residents navigate urgent needs caused by winter conditions.
The team handled 28 calls for service through Tuesday morning, including mental health-related calls, emergency warming needs and assisting Fire and EMS with complex incidents.
Formed in 2022, the City of Round Rock’s Crisis Response Unit, a division within the Round Rock Fire Department, consists of licensed behavioral health clinicians, case managers and paramedics with advanced mental health training, and is tasked with assessing, supporting and stabilizing those in crisis.
In severe weather, the CRU helps connect people to safe shelter and short-term resources, and when needed, links families to ongoing case management, while protecting client privacy.
