Round Rock firefighters to kick off Fill the Boot campaign

Donations to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Round Rock Fire Department will conduct its annual Fill the Boot campaign for Muscular Dystrophy Association the week of May 5.

Firefighters will be collecting donations for MDA at two intersections in town on May 5, 7 and 8. Expect to see firefighters at the East Palm Valley Boulevard/Mays Street and the A.W. Grimes Boulevard/Gattis School Road intersections from 8-10 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

RRFD is among the organizations that annually host more than 1,500 Fill the Boot fundraisers nationwide each spring. MDA has partnered with the International Association of Fire Fighters through Fill the Boot for the past 75 years.

Locally, RRFD has raised $422,000 for MDA since 2011.

“The funds raised by Round Rock Fire go towards many beneficial things for these individuals living with a neuromuscular disease,” said Kelsey Adamek, a Fire Fighter Partnerships account manager for MDA. “Some of these include research to help find cures, treatments to prolong the lives of these individuals, treatment care centers to be utilized by these individuals, and summer camp that is specifically adapted for children to attend who have a neuromuscular disease.”

Fill the Boot donations may also be made online to the Round Rock Fire group assisting with the effort.
