The City of Round Rock is moving forward on the design of a new traffic signal at Chandler Creek Boulevard and Kenney Fort Boulevard.
On Feb. 26, City Council approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a professional engineering services contract with HDR Engineering, Inc. for design of the signal. This action authorized engineering only; construction is expected to return to Council later this year for separate approval.
Following completion of the Kenney Fort Segment 4 project, the City continued monitoring traffic conditions at this location, and a traffic engineering study has since determined that a signal is warranted.
Due to the divided roadway and offset alignment at Chandler Creek Boulevard and Kenney Fort Boulevard, the signal will be designed to operate effectively within the existing roadway configuration. The project will also incorporate pedestrian improvements.
Detailed design work will begin this spring, with plans anticipated to be completed in the fall. The City will then solicit bids and return to Council with a construction contract recommendation. Installation will follow Council approval and scheduling of construction activities.
The total cost of the engineering services contract is $156,445.16 and will be funded through sales tax revenues allocated to transportation projects by the Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corporation.
