The Round Rock Police Department is warning residents about a recent phone scam involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.
In one reported case, a resident received a call from someone claiming to be “Chief Banks,” stating she had an open case with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The call appeared to come from the RRPD non-emergency number, but this was due to caller ID spoofing—a common tactic scammers use to make their calls appear legitimate.
The Round Rock Police Department will never:
- Call to demand personal information, threaten arrest, or claim you have an immigration-related case.
- Call on behalf of federal agencies such as USCIS.
To protect yourself from scams:
- Hang up immediately if a call seems suspicious.
- Do not share personal or financial information over the phone.
- Verify by calling the department directly at 512-218-5500.

Scammers are getting creative, but your awareness is your best defense. When in doubt, contact the Round Rock Police Department directly.
