Sensory Storytime (preregistration)

The Round Rock Public Library presents Sensory Storytime on the last Sunday of each month.

Sensory Storytime will be held from 3 to 3:30 pm in Meeting Room B.  This program is ideal for children with sensory integration challenges, difficulty sitting still, difficulty in large groups, or children who have autism spectrum disorders.  Sensory Storytime is open to all children with an accompanying parent/guardian. Attendance is limited to 12 families and pre-registration is required.

Adulting 101 for Teens – Basic dance steps and etiquette (teens only, ages 12-18)

Welcome to Adulting 101 for Teens, a series of programs to help teens develop life skills to transition to adulthood. We will have presenters on topics in the fall series from September-December.

The Round Rock Public Library and Arthur Murray Dance Center of Georgetown welcome teens to a program to learn how to navigate a dance floor, on Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 pm.

Arthur Murray dance studios have been teaching the world to dance for over 100 years. They have perfected the art of teaching everyone and anyone to dance. They will be exploring the world of dance and a foundation of a slow and fast dance will be established in the class. Proper etiquette on how to ask for a dance, accept an invitation, and how to respectfully hold someone to dance, will all be discussed. They believe that learning to dance is essential in life, and should be !

Tween Maker Club: fun with circuits (preregistration) (ages 8-12)

The Round Rock Public Library will host a Tween Maker Club meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2018 for kids ages 8-12. Participants will experiment, craft, and create with Squishy Circuit kits and Little Bits components — Learn electrical basics through easy-to-use circuitry. Join us at 4:30 pm in Meeting Room B.

Please Note:

This program is for children ages 8-12 only.  Limited seating for caregivers and younger siblings who wish to observe will be available in the back of the room. Only attending participants must preregister. Online registration is required and starts Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 9 am. Those who arrive more than five minutes late may forfeit their space(s). If you cannot attend, please cancel your reservation via Eventbrite or call 512-218-3275.

Adulting 101 for Teens – Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation (teens only, ages 12-18)

 

Welcome to Adulting 101 for Teens, a series of programs to help teens develop life skills to transition to adulthood. We will have presenters on topics in the fall series from September-December.

The Round Rock Public Library and All Things Wild welcomes teens to a program to learn about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, on Tuesday, November 6 at 6:30 pm.

Roger Rucker will tell us about All Things Wild  and the work they do. He will talk about what to do if you find an injured or orphaned wild animal, and what not to do. He will also share information on how to become a wildlife rehabber. If we have time her will talk about a program called Central Texas Owls. 

Roger has a Masters Degree in Zoology and has been a wildlife rehabber and educator for ten years. He did education programs in Kansas with live raptors that had permanent injures.  All Things Wild does not have a permit yet to rehab raptors, but they hope to get one by next year.

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the Library

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 and lasts through noon on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

Decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 24 – October 31. Library staff will vote for the best literary pumpkins on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 9 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form – 2018.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at noon. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • One winner will be chosen from each of the following age categories: young kids (ages 7 and under) & tweens (ages 8-12).
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by noon Thursday, November 1, 2018. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.

Tween Maker Club: Sticky Fingers Cooking Class (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

Let your child release their inner chef! Sticky Fingers Cooking is excited to join Round Rock Public Library at the Tween Maker Club on October 18, 2018 at 4:30 pm.

Preregister to prepare and eat a delicious classic Sticky Fingers Cooking recipe all while learning to cook in a fun, engaging, hands-on and real-world way. Join a professional Chef Instructor to learn kitchen skills, food culture, geography and science while emphasizing each area of cooking as students prepare (and eat!) an incredible culinary creation.
