Council approves $7.87 million for street maintenance projects

Round Rock City Council approved two street maintenance contracts at its April 23 meeting that will improve the state of specific neighborhood and arterial roads throughout the City.

The contracts with Alpha Paving and Texas Materials total $7.87 million and will provide for repairs to curbs, curb ramps, gutters, sidewalks, driveways and pavement as well as pavement milling and overlay. These projects are the latest in the City’s ongoing street maintenance program that began in 2012.

Specific streets within Oak Bluff Estates, Rolling Ridge, Forest Ridge, Bradford Park and Remington Heights will be improved in addition to portions of Old Settlers Boulevard, Sunrise Road, Mays Street, Gattis School Road, A.W. Grimes Boulevard, Double Creek Drive, Dell Way and Forest Creek Drive. The work is anticipated to begin in late summer and conclude in the fall.

These projects are not included in the $4.3 million in street maintenance funding that is expected to be cut from this year’s budget due to the financial impacts of COVID-19.

The City manages more than 1,150 lane miles of roadways within its jurisdiction. The Transportation Department’s street maintenance program aims to preserve and improve the conditions of existing roadways by monitoring the state of its roadways and systematically repairing or repaving the top layers of City streets as needed.
