The Round Rock City Council, after meeting Thursday, Aug. 28, in executive session, voted 7-0 to appoint Assistant City Manager Laurie Hadley to be Interim City Manager effective Oct. 1. Current City Manager Steve Norwood announced his resignation in July. Norwood’s last day will be Sept. 30.

“The City Council is really pleased with the existing executive staff and leadership team, so this move just makes a lot of sense,” Mayor Alan McGraw said. “The City has so much positive momentum – just look at our recent citizen survey results, which are among the best in the nation – and the Council wants to see continuity in leadership at the top of the organization.”

The City Council will review the permanent position in January 2015.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to build on the successes that Steve brought to the organization over the past three-plus years,” Hadley said. “We have a great team in place here, from top to bottom, and I am honored to be able to lead them on an interim basis until the City Council makes its decision on a permanent replacement for Steve.”

Hadley, who has 26 years of experience in local government, has been in her current position since May 2011. She oversees the following departments: Utilities and Environmental Services, Transportation, Planning and Development Services, Library, Human Resources and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Prior to coming to Round Rock, she was Deputy City Manager in Prescott, Ariz., from 2006-2010, and served as Acting City Manager in Prescott in 2011.
