UniverCity, Round Rock’s 11-week program that offers citizens an insider’s perspective on how the City operates, begins a new season on Monday, Aug. 24. Each week, participants will meet with different departments to learn about their roles and gain valuable insight into the City’s core functions.
Free and open to the public, UniverCity consists of weekly classes on Monday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. This fall’s program will run Aug. 24 through Nov. 9, with the next program expected to take place in the spring.
Participants must be willing to commit 33 hours to the program. They learn about day-to-day operations of the City and future projects through presentations, tours or break-out sessions hosted by each City department. Also, they receive complimentary dinners before each class, featuring food from various local restaurants.
Fifteen UniverCity classes have taken place since the program began in 2017. A total of 264 graduates have completed the program thus far, and the City has added a Teen UniverCity program in the summer for high school students.
Applications for the upcoming session are currently being accepted. Applicants must reside within Round Rock city limits, cannot be involved in civil or criminal litigation against the City and must not be currently holding or running for office.
